SHARE MICROFIN LIMITED: INDIA'S LARGEST MICROFINANCE ORGANISATION (A Multimedia Case Study)
This multimedia publication presents a detailed account of SHARE's first years as a microfinance organisation striving to grow while facing the challenges of customer acceptance, fund mobilisation, government regulation. It also presents a discussion on its operational model, an adaptation of the Grameen model.
SHARE has managed to sustain its growth over the years through innovative fund mobilisation efforts, using partnership models with private sector banks and structured deals like securitisation. The organisation also plans to source cheaper funds through bond issues and external commercial borrowings, besides attracting funding from venture capitalists.
This case study includes video clips on field operations and interviews with members and non-members aimed at sensitising the audience to the impact of microfinance on the lives of the poor. Interviews with SHARE's senior management and field executives give an insight into the challenges faced by microfinance organisations such as SHARE in its first years of growth.
